Gold Fields Ghana Wishes Black Stars New Year success

Accra, Jan. 2, GNA - Goldfields, headline sponsors of the senior national team, the Black Stars has willed the team to repeat the feats of 2005 by securing tickets to both the South Africa 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations to be staged in Angola.

Peter Turner the newly appointed Managing Director of the mining giants said in a New Year's message that his outfit was very excited about the prospects of the team in this year. " By October 2009 when the campaign ends, we are very sure in our belief that Ghana will be top of the pile and head towards South Africa in 2010".

Dr Tony Aubynn, Corporate Affairs Director of Goldfields also said that the partnership between the Black Stars and Gold Fields has been very beneficial to both parties. He said "the team has been able to achieve its success due to the financial stability that we provided and for us as a company our joy also comes from the pride and satisfaction Ghanaians have rediscovered in the achievements of the Black Stars."

Gold Fields Ghana sponsored the Black Stars to the tune of 3.7million dollars which is due to end in 2011. In 2005, Gold Fields announced a record three million dollar sponsorship deal then for the Black Stars which catapulted Ghana to her first ever World Cup appearance in Germany and renewed the partnership in 2008. Ghana will face three crack African sides-Mali, Benin and Sudan in its attempt to qualify for a second successive World Cup appearance.
