Goalkeeper Antwi ruled out of Ghana-Iraq clash

Ghana’s first choice goalie at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup Eric Antwi has been ruled out of the crucial third place game against Iraq on today.

The young goalkeeper has failed to recover from the injury he sustained in the semi-final game against the French.

Antwi has been one of the sides’ outstanding performers having saved the side on numerous occasions and the young man is gutted that his injury has not healed in time for the game.

“I was really looking forward to recovering early enough for this game after sustaining that injury against France but as you saw from the training session, I struggled throughout. I will definitely not be able to play the game,'" he told Joy Sports.

"It was going to be the last throw of the dice really but God knows best,” he added.

Coach Sellas Tetteh would have to fall on either Michael Sai or Patrick Ofori to replace the injured goalie later on Saturday.

Ghana will take on Iraq in the bronze medal game before France play Uruguay to determine the winner of the tournament. The two games would all be played at the Turk Telekom Arena. Kick-off is at 15:00 and 18:00 GMT respectively.
