Give retired players chance – Douglas Tagoe

Former Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak player Douglas Tagoe believes retired national footballers have so much to offer Ghana Football and it is about time that they are involved in the administration and management of the game.
Speaking to yours truly in an exclusive interview, the man noted for scoring wonderful picturesque goals with his left foot said it is good that Kotoko has engaged Opoku Nti and Hearts now have Joe Addo in management positions.
“I think the authorities have realised that it is time to be professional and do the right things. Football is for footballers, and we must be allowed to manage our game” he expressed.
According to Douglas Tagoe who is CEO of Camel Plus Company, who deal in real estate and other business, all footballers are very wise and they should never be taken for granted as some did not complete their education due to football.
He said footballers must be respected and whenever they are promised, it must be fulfilled.
He hinted that what happened in Brazil during the FIFA World Cup and the players took the nation to ransom because of appearance fees could have been avoided if the players were respected and they also trusted their management.
“You see, Ghana is blessed with football talents, but the players should be respected and protected, because they are the main characters and they can make or break the game” he noted.
Douglas Tagoe played for Accra Hearts of Oak, Africa Sports in Cote d’ Voire, Arab Contractors in Egypt and Armenia Belefield in Germany.
He was a member of the dreaded Hearts 1977 and 1979, who twice placed second in the African Club Championship, and remembers the memorable finals against Hafia of Guinea when he played one of his best games, assisting a goal scorer and scoring.
Currently he is working in football for Number 7, an international football agency as a scout and advisor.
