Give Avram Grant enough time - J.E Sarpong

Veteran Ghanaian coach J.E Sarpong says Ghanaians should be circumspect with calls on Avram Grant to include local players in the Black Stars.

The 60-year-old has come in for some criticism from premier league board chairman Welbeck Abra-Appiah who argues a quota should be given to local based players in the Black Stars.

Grant named a 22-man squad for this month’s international friendlies against Senegal and Mali with Fatau Dauda the only local based player in the team. But Sarpong says Grant should be given time to assess the local players. “Building a team is not easy so for me I think we should just give him enough time,” Sarpong told Citi FM

“From the little I saw the performance was ok but for some hitches but that is football always room for improvement.

“I have heard about calls for the local players and I say he should watch a lot of our matches but I also say we should be patience with him for now.”

Ghana fell to Senegal 2-1 before picking up themselves to earn an important point against Mali three days later in the international friendlies played this season.
