Ghanaian referees for 2010 World Cup Qualifier

Accra, Nov 12, GNA - Four Ghanaian referees have received invitation from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to handle the second leg of the 2010 World Cup Qualifier between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone on Sunday, November 17.

The winner gains qualification into the main draw scheduled for November 25, Durban, South Africa.

Referee Joseph Lamptey, who handled the inaugural match between the Black Starlets of Ghana and their Togolese counterparts at the refurbished Ohene Djan Sports Stadium last Sunday, will be the middleman in the crucial encounter.

Salifu Malik and David Laryea would assist him on lines one and two respectively with Reginald Lathbridge acting as the fourth referee. Referee Lamptey told the GNA Sports in a brief chat that, last Sunday's game between the juvenile sides of Ghana and Togo served as a useful trial game for them and they are expecting an improved performance during the continental game.

The referees will leave Accra on Wednesday for the game. Referee Lamptey has had quite an impressive season handling some high profile continental matches.

Siera Leone won the first leg in Freetown by a lone goal and would be banking their hopes on this to secure a ticket to the main draw, whilst Guinea Bissau would make an attempt to overturn the lone goal deficit in their favour.
