Ghanaian player suffers heart complaint

Orebro’s Sam Mensah was taken to the hospital with heart complaints on Saturday and, as a result, will be out of action as he undergoes tests.

The Swedish-based defender has been ruled out of action for the foreseeable future, until he has passed various cardiac tests and has been confirmed fit.

Mensah featured for the last 15 minutes of OSK’s weekend clash with GIF Sundsvall in Gavle on Saturday. The Behm Arena outfit won the match 4-2, but their triumph came at a cost, with Mensah taken sick after the contest.

The player complained of a discomfort in his chest and was taken to the emergency room, accompanied by South African teammate Ayanda Nkili. He underwent tests throughout the evening, but was not required to stay overnight and returned home the same night.

Speaking to Nerikes Allehanda, the club’s assistant coach, Axel Kjall, who also travelled to the medical facility with Mensah, explained how difficult the situation has been for the 26-year-old.

“It’s really good that we got him home and that Sam could sleep in his own bed, but there’s no doubt that it was a dreadful experience for him, “ Kjall began.

“Also, it’s bad for our team when a player doesn’t feel good.”

The assistance coach went on to confirm that the player would be out of action for an unspecified period while he recuperates.

“He won’t be coming to training in the near future,” the 34-year-old continued, “when this kind of thing happens, you certainly don’t work out.

“Right now, Sam will take some time to rest and recover. He has been very tired later.”

Club doctor Ulf Nordstrom confirmed that the player would undergo more tests before being able to set a return date.

“Sam will be followed up by colleagues in the cardiology clinic of Orebro’s University Hospital in a few days,” he began.

“I have no more details than that,” he concluded.
