Ghana slump in FIFA ranking

Accra, June 4, GNA- Ghana has slumped two places from the latest FIFA World ranking released on Wednesday.

Now ranked 16th in the world, the Ghanaians have been overtaken by Cameroon as number one in Africa.

Cameroon has moved up three places in the rankings to 13th overall, overtaking Ghana, who were 14th before the latest edition. Ghana's drop could be attributed to losing their last two international friendly matches since FIFA's ranking system takes into account current performance of teams. Ghana lost 24 points within the past month after 1-2 and 0-1 defeats to Mexico and Australia respectively.

Ghana broke into the first 20 after earning a bronze at the 26th African Cup of Nations last February and maintained the position for four months.

African Champions, Egypt moved seven places up globally to 23 and are just behind Ghana on the continent with Ivory Coast in fourth place. Argentina sit at the summit of the world table and have extended their lead over Brazil even though they have not played a game in the latest ranking period.
