Ghana set to play Namibia

The Ghana Football Association is sending an envoy in the coming days to Namibia to assess chances of the two countries playing an international friendly in Windhoek.

The move has been confirmed by Namibia Football Association president John Muinjo who says talks are already underway.

In letters between Muinjo and Fred Pappoe, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the West African nation accepted to play the Brave Warriors on a yet-undecided date.

The letter read that Pappoe “will be coming to Namibia soon to see if the Black Stars could stay there (here) to prepare for their African Cup of Nations in Angola.”

Muinjo responded saying Ghana has a “huge following in Namibia with its top international players.”

Ghana boasts the quality of Chelsea’s Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah among others and Pappoe has informed NFA that GFA “will revert back in the next few days to let (Muinjo) know our travel plans to visit Namibia and also look at the facilities on offer”.

Namibia is looking for a team to play on August 12, a FIFA date of international friendlies in Windhoek.

Initially Malawi and Mozambique, who are still in the World Cup qualifiers, had approached Namibia for a match in their countries but NFA is giving special preference to teams who want to play in Windhoek.
