Ghana raise red flag over training pitch

Ghana have asked for an improved training pitch ahead of next year’s CHAN tournament.

The local Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Libya, Ethiopia and Congo and will be based in Bloemfontein.

All Group C matches will be played at the Free State Stadium which have received the seal of approval from the Ghana FA after coach Maxwell Konadu toured designated facilities for Ghana last month.

The local Black Stars coach is however not satisfied with the quality of facilities with the designated training pitch to Ghana – of which he made a request for some improvement.

Authorities have however given their word that all of Ghana’s concerns with respect to the training pitch will be addressed before the tournament kicks off next year.

“Ghana is based in Bloemfontein with Libya, Congo and Ethiopia,” Konadu told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“We are very satisfied with the facilities. The hotels are good and the stadium is a very nice stadium.

“The only problem we had was with the training pitch, but they assured us that before the tournament starts it will be very good.”

Ghana have participated in all three editions of the CHAN since it started in 2009 in Ivory Coast.

The local Black Stars will be looking to make a much meaningful impact this term after bundling out at just the group stage in the last edition hosted by Sudan.

The team made it through to the grand finale in the maiden edition where they lost out to a more compact DR Congo side.
