Ghana To Play In Four-Nations Challenge

The Black Stars of Ghana will take part in a Four-Nations Tournament, which kicks off in Lagos, Nigeria on the 30th of this month.

Ghana is expected to field a very strong side, since most of the Europe-based players will be home on holidays.

The other teams confirmed for the tournament, which the giant South Korean electronics firm - LG -is banking rolling to formally launch its products in the country, are Iran, the African champions Cameroon and the host nation Nigeria.

The first prize for the three-day competition is $50,000. The event is on a straight knock out basis with the winners going straight into the final. The runners-up will receive $40,000. All participating teams will receive appearance fees.

Cameroon, the four-times African champions, are replacing the Tarenga Lions of Senegal who declined the invitation sent to them for the tournament. Morocco also turned down an offer to take part.

It was Nigeria's next-door neighbours who prevented the Eagles from lifting the African Nations Cup for the second time on home soil when they beat the Eagles on penalties in the final of Ghana/Nigeria 2000. Incidentally when the Lions won the trophy for the first time in 1984 they also beat the Eagles.
