Ghana Sports Supporters getting united

The various sports supporters groups
in Ghana have taken a bold step to merge and get united as they seek a common
goal to cheer the national teams to victory in international competitions.
At the Media Center of the Accra
Sports Stadium on Wednesday September 17, 2013, the groups met the media to
inform about the unity and adoption of the name GHANA SUPPORTERS.
Over 25 supporters groups met to
discuss and plan how to forge ahead to maintain peace, unity and love among the
various groups especially when looking for visas to travel to support Ghana
outside and seeking sponsorship.
Five groups leaders were selected to
lead the new body, namely Millennium, Die Hard, GHANSU, NSU and NAWSU.
According to spokesman Aziz Haruna
of Hearts of Oak Chapter O fame, many clubs and groups are springing up when
there are more group in the system already and as they cannot stop any one from
forming an Association, they have decided to come together to support the Black
Stars and other national teams and national sporting events. He said the
supporters groups are doing everything possible, both spiritually and
physically to ensure that Ghana qualifies for Brazil 2014.
Abraham Nkansah of Die Hard noted
that new groups must be scrutinized before they are accepted to be part of the
Ghana Supporters as some many have dangerous motives for forming the supporters
groups which are not sporty.
He urged the members to comport
themselves as they will serve as ambassadors of the nation when they travel out
to cheer the national team.
Shaibu Abass aka Guntu of Millennium
supporters’ fame advised the members of the newly formed GHANA SUPPORTERS to
respect the leadership of the five founding groups as they prepare the grounds
for a great and big platform for supporting sports.
Moro Issaka 40-40 aka Polo noted
that everything that comes to the new group from the government or sponsors
will be shared equally according to the strength or numbers of the groups.
Mariam Buckman also a staunch fan of
Accra Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars agreed that it is good that the various
supporters groups come together and do things in common.
Christopher Opoku, a popular TV
sports journalist advised the new Ghana Supporters to try their best to
accommodate all the smaller supporting groups and build a strong body that
would be cherished and respected.
Abeiku Kingsley also a media
practitioner with Peace FM advised the leadership to organize programs to
educate and sensitise the membes on the rules of the game of football and try
to organize events that will make the general public see them as a positive
entity with good intentions and projections.
