Ghana-Nigeria World Cup Cracker: Eagles Defence Worries Bonfrere

Ahead of the crucial World Cup match between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana scheduled for Kumasi, the Eagles' Technical Adviser, Johannes Bonfrere, is already developing goose pimples over the leaky Super Eagles defence.

Though presently in Europe, the Dutch coach always takes his time to communicate his feelings to the NFA Chairman, Brigadier-Gen. Dominic Oneya (retd.)

In an exclusive chat with P.M.Sport, the soccer boss stated that Bonfrere is worried about the instability of the team's central defence in the last two matches. He held that the situation informed Bonfrere's decision to invite Wolfsburg's defender, Emeka Ifejiagwa for the match against Ghana.

"I think it is nothing new that our central defence is our main problem. We observed in the Eagles' last two matches against Zambia and Sudan that Taribo West and Isaac Okoronkwo were yet to fully understand each other. And in his last call, he (Bonfrere) said the defence is giving him concern. But he believed that the problem would be solved when the team camps in Togo, preparatory to the match against Ghana," Oneya revealed.

Before now, Derby County star, Taribo West, had expressed deep reservation over his pairing with Isaac Okoronkwo. Taribo said though Okoronkwo is very good in marking, he is not happy about the manner the Shaktar Donetsk defender frequently gives the ball away.

Taribo told P.M.Sport shortly after the match against Sudan that Okoronkwo could not surge forward and join the attack because he simply lacks the experience and confidence to do so.
