Ghana-Mexico: Sarpei withdraws

Germany-based defender Hans Adu Sarpei will miss Ghana's friendly against Mexico on Wednesday.

The in-form Bayer Leverkusen ace was part of the 18-man squad named for the game in London but has withdrawn because of injury.

He suffered a stiff neck during the game against Bayern Munich at the weekend but continued to play in the crucial encounter in their push of a Champions League place.

Sarpei is undergoing treatment in Germany and says he should be back in action soon to help the Black Stars when the World Cup qualifiers start in June.

"It is sad to withdraw from the game against Mexico because of this injury but the good thing is that I will not be out for too long," Sarpei told Ghanasoccernet.

"I really wanted to join the national team so that we can continue to build the team when the World Cup qualifiers start June we will be in good shape.

"The doctors have told me that I am improving very fast so I should be back in action soon and return to help the national team."

Sarpei is expected to return to action for Bayer Leverkusen this weekend if cleared by doctors of the club.
