Ghana Makes Debut In Homeless World Cup

The Leopards of Ghana made a good start but stumbled along the way when they made their maiden appearance in the The fourth Homeless World Cup. The tournament being hosted by The Big Issue South Africa this year in Cape Town was welcomed by President Thabo Mbeki during his Heritage Day address last Sunday is an international street soccer.

Teams from 48 countries, comprising homeless, vulnerably sheltered and other marginalised men and women, are taking part in the tournament. Afghanistan , Cameroon ,Czech Republic ,Estonia ,Germany ,Kazakhstan ,Namibia, Norway, Portuga,l Scotland, South Africa ,USA ,Argentina ,Brazil ,Denmark,Finland , Ghana , Ireland ,Kenya , Malawi,Netherlands, Paraguay,Russia,Serbia,,Uganda Zambia , Australia , Burundi , Chile ,England, France, Italy,Liberia,Mexico,Nigeria,Rwanda,Sweden,Ukraine,Zimbabwe are some of the teams in the tournament.

In their opening match played last sunday, Ghana beat Zambia 4:3 . The team however lost to Ukraine by 8-1 and made amends when they beat Slovakia 3-2 in the second match of the day on Monday. On Tuesday, Poland beat Ghana 5 - 0.Wednesday saw Uganda walloping Ghana by 6-3 . Later in the day Germany beat Ghana 3-1. Thursday saw Ghana loosing to Ireland by 4-1 but beat France 5-2 the second game.Ghana in the evening played Finland.The tournament has moved to a new phase and this is the current group standing Ireland - 6 points
