The Ghana Football Association has officially written to the Senegal FA apologizing to their Under-17 team which were forced to board taxis to the match venue for last week’s African Championship qualifier in Accra.

The continent paid for eight different taxis to convey them from their hotel to the El-Wak Sports Stadium after the bus driver assigned to the team went AWOL hours before kick-off.

The delegation complained it was deliberate move to frustrate them in the final qualifying round first leg tie which they lost 2-0.

It is being speculated in the local media the Black Starlets might suffer a similar fate in the return leg in a fortnight.

But the Ghana FA has moved quickly to avert retaliation from their West Africa neighbours.

“It’s was a sorry situation and we apologize to the Senegalese team for what happened which was never intentional,” Chairman of the Black Starlets management committee Awuah Nyamekye said.

“When I saw them coming in taxis it was shocking to me because they had been taking good care of and so was a bit surprise at the turn of event. My understanding is that they driver of the bus was nowhere to be found and that’s for me is not enough justification for the humiliation that has caused us.”

“We apologise sincerely and we hope they’ll take our apology in good faith.”

The winner over the two legs will qualify for the 2011 African Championship to be hosted in Rwanda.
