After almost two years of no action, one of Ghana’s fast-growing sports is bouncing back in style.

The Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) has announced their return onto the sporting calendar with the launch of the Super Cup. The 2018 Beach Soccer Super Cup was launched in Accra on friday at the Laboma Beach Resort.

The tournament which is billed to take place this month will be played over the course of 3 weekends with Accra and Takoradi pencilled as the host cities.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament with 4 each teams from the Western, Volta, Central and Greater Accra regions battling it out for the honours. The CAL Bank tournament forms part of long-term plans by the Ghanaian-owned Bank to revamp the game of Beach Soccer in the country.

The head of Marketing at CAL Bank, Kofi Siabi speaking at the launch indicated that the financial institution remains resolute behind the development and promotion of Beach soccer in Ghana. According to him, Cal bank would continue their mandate as sponsors of the Beach Soccer Super clash.

Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, president of the GBSA said at the launch that, the reason for the break was to go back to the drawing board to restrategize. He explained that they have been dormant because the process of consulting other major bodies to support had to go through different stages and protocols.

He however noted that the Association was in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee, The National Sports Authority and Ministry of Youth and Sports to accept the GBSA as part of its responsibilities.

Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also hinted that the beach soccer league may return in March 2019 , if all things being equal.
