George Afriyie: “GFA yet to be officially notified of Cherokee gift to Black Stars”

Ghana FA Emergency Committee member, George Afriyie has revealed that the FA has not yet received any official notification from Tanink Ghana Limited over the donation of the Grand Cherokee Jeeps to the Black Stars.

The CEO of Tanink Ghana Limited, Roger Klogo confirmed in a media interview in February that the vehicles will be handed to players of the senior national team as a reward for their silver medal finish at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

“It’s interesting. When I came (from Equatorial Guinea) I also read about it in the news and followed it on social media but as an FA I have not seen an official letter coming from Tanink saying come and pick 23 or 30 cars. Maybe, the communication has gone to the Sports Ministry,” Afriyie, who is also the Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, told Starr FM.

The report on the car gift to the Black Stars has been welcomed by debates with some pundits claiming the tax rebate from government to Tanink Ghana Limited for presenting the vehicles is a waste of the nation’s finances.
