Gargo Blames Ghana's Woes On Foreign Coaches

Ghana's inability to debut in the World Cup despite her arrays of star players who make waves in their respective foreign clubs have been blamed on preference for foreign coaches to local ones.

Udinese FC of Italy's midfielder, Mohammed Gargo who made this declaration in Port-Harcourt said Ghana would have been higher than her present position in the World football if Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials had believed in their local coaches.

He said this mistake which Ghana kept making has continued to rob them the chance of qualifying for the World Cup despite doing well at other lesser football competitions internationally.

Gargo said former Black Stars' skipper Abedi Ayew Pele or the present Coach Fred Osam Duodu ought to have been appointed the team's Coach earlier than now rather than the continued reliance on foreign expatriates.

"Over there in Europe our mates taunt us so much. They say waoh! Ghana is a good football nation, but we are not seeing them in the World Cup finals," he said.

Gargo said perhaps things were going wrong in Ghana football because the officials were in slumber for too long adding that it was time to wake up.

"I once rejected Black Stars' captainship band because so many things were going wrong in GFA and in the team and I didn't like it," he added.

The player, however, thanked God that the situation was beginning to change with the change in GFA membership and the team's technical crew too.

He particularly heaved a sigh of relief with the appointment of Abedi into GFA board and said the former mercurial midfielder would now be available to render technical advise to the coaching crew.
