GHALCA to collaborate with SOS

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) is to collaborate with Tema and Asiakwa SOS villages to enable the four participating clubs in this year's LG Top Four Tournament to visit the two institutions before the end the competition.

Sequel to this, a meeting is scheduled between GHALCA officials and representatives of the two SOS villages in Accra on Wednesday to agree on time and dates of the visits.

Kudjo Fianoo, administrative manager of GHALCA told the GNA Sports in Accra that the move is to revive FIFA's requirement, which enjoins all football associations to collaborate their SOS villages to enhance the development of the game.

He said unfortunately, Ghana has downplayed this requirement over the years and expressed the hope that the LG Top Four competition would help revitalised and rejuvenate the idea. The administrative Manager said, by the end of the tournament, which commences on February 23 through to March 23 this year, each of the four teams- Hearts, Kotoko, Liberty Professionals and Olympics- would have visited the two institutions.

The tournament, the second to be staged, was given an added boost late last month with the injection of a ?400m sponsorship package by Somotex Ghana Limited. The company would also give awards to the best player at the end of each match plus the over-all best player of the tournament, goal king, best defender and fair-play wards to teams.

Coca Cola Company Limited is also to assist GHALCA with cash and products for the month-long competition.
