GFA under pressure to invite Eric Bekoe

Football groupies in the country have expressed their desire to have the handlers of the Black Stars team pull out a deserving invitation for former Asante Kotoko and Heart of Lions striker; Eric Bekoe who at present plies his trade with Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League. Ghana Footy reports....

Bekoe has been in fine form and has be fighting his way back into the star-studded Black Stars side with several extraordinary goal scoring runs that has seen him and Haras El Hodood’s Ahmed Abdel-Ghani topping the Egyptian Premier league goals chart with 7 goals apiece.

Views sampled from most radio stations sports call-in programmes in the country saw a good number of the fans demanding the GFA and the technical handlers of the team to give the 2007/08 Ghana League and the 2007/08 CAF Confederation goal king the opportunity to prove his worth in the team looking at the form the player has been in.

One caller who made his thoughts heard on one of the programmes said: “Why are the GFA doing this? You said only players who play for their clubs most of the times would be invited but in the case of Eric Bekoe, he is playing every week and has now scored 7 goals in 8 matches. What else does they (GFA) want this young chap to do?”

Another said: “Maybe, Kwesi Nyantakyi and his team want Eric Bekeo to pay them before he would be looked at. We had the privileged to see what this player did when he was with Asante Kotoko. He won the Ghana League Goal King and the CAF Confederation Goal King award as well. What Bekoe did in Ghana is yet to be seen as he was a hero in Kotoko despite playing for a season.” Petrojet’s head coach, Mokhtar Mokhtar on the other hand has tipped Eric Bekoe to be the next big thing in Egyptian football and hopes his player’s rich goal scoring run would be applauded by Milovan Rajevac with a justified Black Stars call-up prior to the Ghana/Mali FIFA World Cup qualifying game come November.

He told the club’s official TV channel: “Bekoe has been overwhelming with the goals that he has been scoring. His goal against El Hodood is tipped to win the goal of the season and I am very happy to have him with us. Maybe, he has been underrated by his country but for us, he is worth every penny.”
