GFA start probe -BBC

Ghana's Football Association (Gfa) has appointed a three-man body to find out the reasons behind the national team's poor performance at the African Nations Cup finals in Mali.

After a seven-hour meeting in Accra on Thursday, the Gfa gave Fred Pappoe, Dan Kebbie and Henry Aryee three weeks to come up with their findings.

"The Black Stars didn't meet the expectations of Ghanaians in Mali," said Gfa official, Yusuf Ibrahim.

"We have set up this committee to look into strategies to avoid errors from repeating themselves in the 2004 [Nations Cup] campaign."

"For now we don't have to cry over spilt milk," Ibrahim said.

GFA Chairman, Ben Koufie, is receiving criticism from the media for the quarter-final exit of the Black Stars from Mali 2002.

But the Gfa spokesman insists that the three man panel is not meant to look for "scapegoats".

"Ghanaian football is not in crisis. The five year plan for a maiden World Cup place in 2006 is still on course". Ghana lost 0-1 to Nigeria's Super Eagles in the quarter-finals

Since Ghana won the Nations Cup in 1982, the four time African champions have been unable to ascend the summit of the African game.
