GFA set to go the distance with Nania FC

Accra, Aug 9, GNA - Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared that his outfit will pursue the ongoing legal battle against Nania FC to its logical conclusion, which seem to be the major cause of delay for the start of the 2007/8 National Premier League.

He said despite the delay in the start of the league, the FA has no option than to go all out and ensure that justice is attained while expressing confidence that they will emerge victors when both parties meet at the Court of Appeal on August 21.

The FA President's statement, which comes in the wake of agitations from some Premier league clubs following the delayed start of the 2007/8 Football league season, was speaking with the GNA Sports in Accra on Thursday.

"I know the Clubs are suffering but they have to endure the pain for sometime because the right things must be done, hence our decision to see to the logical conclusion of the case.

"I am a Club Chairman myself and I know what they are talking about but in a situation where clubs refuse to use the appropriate judicial procedures in the structures of the GFA to settle disputes, then nothing can be done about it." The FA President noted.

He however accepted the fact that the protracted legal battle could affect the improved sponsorship package from Onetouch Ghana Limited who have announced 17 billion cedis worth of sponsorship for the league with each Club expected to pocket 650 million cedis but said he hopes that the situation will not get to that extent.

Nania FC it would be recalled were banned by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA for alleged involvement in a match fixing saga after recording an incredible 31-0 score line over Okwawu United in the National Division One Middle League.

There however seem to be an uneasy calm at the Clubs' front as some of them are calling for immediate remedy and solution found for the situation to save the league from further delays.
