GFA promise competent replacement

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyie says they will name a competent replacement for the departed Goran Stevanovic as coach.

Nyantekyie has not put a timeframe on the appointment of a new boss, but says the GFA will act with urgency to get a competent man in place before the start of the World Cup qualifiers in June, with 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers also to be played in September.

“The two competitions are very important and we need to work very hard to get a competent replacement who would get ample time to prepare the team prepare for the competitions,” Nyantekyie said after the GFA announced the decision to sack Stevanovic.

The GFA made the announcement after a long drawn out process, but Nyantekyie says it is important the association took it's time because of the nature of the issues involved and feels they have made the best decision.

“The expectation was too high. When you are not involved you will not know the details and intricacies involved. We think this is the best decision we can reach under the circumstances.”
