GFA issues ultimatum to Hearts and Taylor

Accra, June 10, GNA- The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued an ultimatum to Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited and Charles Taylor to meet within one week at a suitable venue for a resolution of the impasse between the club and the player.

In a report of a fact finding committee by the GFA on controversies surrounding the players' contract, Hearts and other related matters, signed by Mr. Ben Koufie Chairman of the GFA Kwasi Nyantekyi, Mr Sylvester Mensah, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Mr. La Danso Addo and Kofi Nsiah all members of the GFA, it stated that the player signed a valid contract with Hearts of oak on March 7, 2003.

The committee also found out that, the player agreed with Hearts to be paid an inducement/enticement fee of 100 million cedis as consideration for his contract with Hearts of Oak. According to the report made available to the GNA Sports, Hearts paid 50 million! cedis of the said amount into Taylor's account at the SSB Bank Limited at the Accra Ring Road Branch with the remaining balance of 50 million cedis which was agreed upon by both parties to be paid within three weeks after March 7 and has remained outstanding and owing to date.

In the FA's eleven-page document the committee maintained that the player accordingly remain a player of Hearts of Oak since he duly signed the GFA and CAF player licences in 2003. The Association therefore, said it would proceed to endorse the player's license to Hearts of Oak and ordered any interested club in accordance with the FIFA, CAF and GFA regulations to negotiate and obtain his release from Hearts of Oak. According to the findings, it appears that it was based on the validity of the player's contract that Asante Kotoko wrote to Hearts for their wards release.

The committee was of the opinion that the signature mark on the supposed letter of resignation from the player to his employers on March 3, 2003 was that of Taylor.

Taylor had explained to the committee that, on the said letter, although the signature was not his "usual" signature known to all, he signed the letter though he could not repeat it when asked to.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the signing, the player said at the time, Mr. George Hemans, a friend had promised to take him to Japan and in order to satisfy Kotoko, he scribbled a signature on the letter brought to him by a Kotoko officials who approached him to play for them so that he could concentrate on the trip to Japan.

The GFA recommended that players should involve their professional advisers in all negotiations with clubs to forestall the recurrence of the cases for the avoidance of complain about terms of the contracts by the players.

It advised club officials to encourage their players to attend negotiations of their contract with their professionals advisers, notably lawyers and accountants.
