GFA fails to meet over Burkhard

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Thursday evening failed to hold a scheduled meeting to conclude discussions on Burkhard Ziese, the outgoing coach of the Black Stars as majority of the Board members failed to turn up.

Mr Kofi Nsiah, General Secretary of the GFA told the GNA Sports that the meeting could not hold because they could not form a quorum. He said the meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 12 and hoped a final decision would be taken on that day.

Commenting on his insistence that the coach had not been sacked, the GFA scribe said Burkhard has been given notice of intent by his employers to discontinue working with him after one month and they were still expecting a response from the coach before any definite action could be taken.

The German's coach's sack has been widely publicised by the media and the GFA scribe's revelation is a new twirl in the matter. The call for the sack of Bukhard gained prominence after the German led the Black Stars to a 0-1 loss in Kigali against unsung Rwanda in a Nations Cup qualifier.

The Stars had earlier drawn 1-1 with Uganda in Kumasi and the loss in Kigali finally denied Ghana a place in the 18th edition of the African Cup of Nations, slated for Tunisia in February next year. Under the German, the Stars lost 3-1 to Nigeria in Abuja in an invitational fray and recorded negative results in a four-nation tournament in Tunisia.
