Future belongs to Goldfields - Oti Akenten

Oti Akenteng, head coach of premier league club, Obuasi Goldfields has said that his team would be the one to beat in the coming seasons of the premier league.

In an exclusive interview with the GNA Sports on Thursday, the former Black Stars assistant coach said the miners have invested in youthful players who are gradually gaining experience as they learn to cope with the rigours of the premiership.

The head coach said the fourth position of Goldfields on the current standings is an indication of better things to come when the boys mature in ability and strength.

He said the team could have done better than where they are at the moment because they played better than the opposition in some of the matches they lost and attributed it to "match rustiness" due to the frequent breaks in the league.

Coach Akenten said there is a good relationship between management, the technical team and the playing body and believed that the collaborated efforts of the trio would make it possible for Goldfields to be crowned premiership champions again in the future.

Obuasi Goldfields won the professional premier league three times on the trot when it was introduced in 1994. They escaped relegation narrowly in 1998.

At the end of the 2001 season, the club off loaded most of their regular players and promoted young budding stars from their academy and hired Oti Akenten who was Osam Duodu's assistant at the Black Stars to take charge.
