Frimpong Manso: “Defensive deficiency will threaten Ghana’s AFCON 2015 title ambitions”

Retired Black Stars defender Frimpong Manso believes the goalkeeping and defensive deficiencies in the senior national team will threaten Ghana’s chances of reaching the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

After conceding 6 goals in their 3 group games at the 2014 World Cup, the Black Stars’ defensive woes continued as Ghana allowed in 7 goals in 6 matches during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, an average of 1.1 goals conceded in every qualifier.

“Look at how we kept conceding at the World Cup (2014) and even if you look at the AFCON 2015 qualifiers, our backline was not that impressive. We need to resolve our goalkeeping and defensive problems. That’s the only way we can go all the way to the final of the AFCON 2015,” Frimpong Manso told Accra-based radio station Happy 98.9FM.

With just 19 days to the AFCON, the 4 invited goalkeepers and 10 defenders called up to the Black Stars must impress Coach Avram Grant to avoid missing a place in the final 23-man squad for the continental competition.
