Fresh court injunction placed on GFA election

Ghana Football Association Ghana Football Association

Enoch Tekpetey, a club administer of Odorkor Kwashieman Football club has filed a writ against the Ghana Football Association to stop its presidential election from taking place tomorrow (Tuesday) in Tamale.

Tekpetey received the injunction from the Accra Fast Track High Court on Friday, following the decision of the court throw out an earlier injunction placed on the election by an Accra based lawyer John Kwame Quayson for lacking the locus standi to file a writ against the GFA.

Meanwhile, Quayson whose injunction was squashed and subsequently slapped with a fine of GHc 8,000 has appealed against the decision of the Fast Track Court and has teemed up with Enoch Tekpetey to ensure the election is halted.

Unfortunately, the Ghana FA moved its secretariat to Tamale, the northern regional capital on Friday, thus the plaintiff couldn’t get any GFA member to hand him the court injunction.

However, Quayson and Tekpetey on Sunday handed the fresh injunction and the appeal to Fred Pappoe, a member of the Executive Committee of the GFA at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, after his side Gt. Olympics whipped WAFA 2-0 in the First Capital Plus Premier League.

“I don’t understand why the GFA doesn’t want to do the right thing. People like me want to bring sanity to Ghana football,” he told Metro fm.

“I was surprised, when my writ was squashed on the basis that I don’t have the locus standi to do that, due to this I went for an appeal just after the ruling, but all the GFA members vanished from the scene.

“Fortunately, another person has filed a writ against the GFA preventing them from organizing the injunction, but all attempts to hand it over to the GFA failed because there was no one at their secretariat on Friday to receive it. However, we succeeded to give them to Fred Pappoe on Sunday.”

Lawyer Kwame Quayson has warned the GFA to adhere to the provisions of the injunction or else they will be charged for contempt, adding that some of the GFA members have spoken to him for out of court settlement.

“I hope GFA is aware of what happened to the likes of Ken Korankyi, during the Supreme Court ruling on the election petition. This time around some people would be imprisoned for a year for contempt.

“Although, some people within the GFA have called me to settle the issue amicable out of court, some are bent on resorting to the law court. I will pursue this case to the latter until such a time they all realize the need to come together to ensure the right thing is done,” he added.

The Kwame Quayson an administrator of Dynamic Heroes, a division 2 club in Winneba and Enoch Tekpetey are both seeking an interpretation as to why the district level elections and the regional level elections wouldn’t be held before the main FA presidential elections.

The incumbent GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi is going for re-election unopposed, because the other people who picked up forms to contest him failed to meet the requirement.
