Foreign-Based pros to form parallel "Black Stars"

There are strong indications that a Ghana team, based in Europe, would be formed in the summer. The team, not sanctioned by GFA & FIFA, will comprise of Ghana professionals based in Europe. They will play mainly friendlies against top European clubs.

Initially, retired and active professionals, both home and abroad, would form a players union. Consequently, a Ghana football team will be formed under the control of a management team in Europe. Rumor has it that; Mr. Akoto is involved in the venture and plans to present the idea to some players in due course. He has however refused to comment, but stated philosphically: "The stones that the builders refused, shall be the head of the corner stone".

A press conference has been scheduled for the end of May when most of the European based pros will be in Ghana for holidays. Meanwhile, former Black Stars defender Tony Baffoe, Kwame Ayew, Yaw Preko and Sam Johnson have all welcomed the proposed Ghanaian professional footballers’ Union which will seek to address the injustices meted out to Ghanaian footballers in Europe by agents, coaches other players and even more importantly by past and present football administration in Ghana.

Experts suggest that such a formation could also serve as a direct challenge to the authority of the GFA as far as player welfare is concerned.
