Foh-Amoaning criticizes Stars preparations for World Cup

Accra, June 4, GNA - Veteran Sports analyst, Moses Foh-Amoaning has criticised the preparations of the Black Stars for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The Stars have so far engaged in one trial match, and lost 1-4 to Holland, and Foh-Amoaning said it showed an impact on the team's physical conditioning for the tournament.

The former Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) made this remarks at a symposium in Accra on Friday organised by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) in preparation for sports journalists for the World Cup.

The Stars will wrap up their preparations with a friendly against lowly-ranked Latvia in London on Saturday, June 5, but Foh-Amoaning is the least enthused about the plans for the tournament.

Foh-Amoaning said the Stars will have a problem with their physical conditioning having spent a minimal time in camp compared to the other competing teams.

The former GBA Boss condemned the approach of the technical handlers to organise a Stephen Appiah XI versus Asamoah Gyan XI on May 27 in London after what seemed like futile attempts to get an opponent.

He mocked about the competitiveness in the said match and the expected impact on the team's preparation.

Foh-Amoaning however poured out that the team is made of up of good players but the inability to play together for a longer period might serve as their bane.

On the team's chances, he said the Stars has the potential to go far, but was categorical that "It will be very difficult to beat Germany." He said the Germany team has in-depth quality and that the technical ability of the team has improved against four years ago on their home soil. Foh-Amoaning encouraged all to support the team to achieve the expected results at the Mundial.

The Stars will open their campaign on June 13 against Serbia then play Australia five days later before wrapping up against Germany on June 23.
