Fixture clash thwarts Hearts

HEARTS OF OAK have been forced to withdraw from the invitational clash against the Burkina Faso national team due to a fixture clash.

The Ghanaian League champions' expected trip to Burkina Faso tomorrow is in doubt because they have an outstanding league match against the Liberty Professionals.

According to Professional League Board (PLB) chairman Sylvester Mensah they are unwilling to change the fixtures, and he said: "Their programme for the league still stands and hasn't changed due to their expected trip to Burkina Faso tomorrow."

He stated that the PLB would be meeting the FA today to discuss the situation.

Hearts of Oak's trip is to be led by future Ghanaian FA chairman, Abedi Ayew Pele, and is aimed at raising funds for the families of victims of Accra Sports Stadium tragedy on May 9, which saw 126 lives lost.

The PLB chairman added: "The board is at the moment rescheduling league fixtures involving Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko due to their expected participation in the VODACOM Challenge Cup in South Africa, which commences on June 28 and they cannot find a window to accommodate further changes."

The board also has to arrange FA Cup matches that must adhere to a CAF deadline.
