Fifa approves Boateng's Ghana switch

FIFA has approved the request for a nationality switch by the Ghana Football Association for player, Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Tuesday's decision of the soccer governing body means that the Portsmouth attacker who applied to switch allegiance to enable him play for Ghana would be eligible to make his Ghana debut and also claim a place in Milovan Rajevac's team for next month's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Boateng was named in Ghana's provisional list of 30 for the World Cup announced last week.

The 23-year-old on loan with Portsmouth whose father hails from Ghana last year opted against a possible future with the German national team, favouring Ghana instead.

A change in FIFA statutes in 2005 allowed players who had represented one country at junior level to play for another country if they are entitled to dual nationality.

Kevin-Prince Boateng becomes the second player after Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to have utilized the FIFA clause.
