Fianoo slams Black Stars bonus structure

Ashanti Gold CEO Kudjoe Fianoo has called for a re-evaluation of Ghana national team bonus structure.

The Black Stars remuneration package has been an issue of intense debate lately with many clamouring for a slash due to the country’s current economic challenges, and the renowned administrator is the latest to back the calls.

“I believe we need to look at the money we put into the team,” Fianoo told Boss FM.

“For instance, in one of the preparatory games ahead of the 2015 AFCON, I think we played against a club in Portugal which didn’t even have names on the back of their jerseys and yet, we paid $5000 as appearance fee to each Black Stars player.

“I think for matches of this nature, it is probably on the high side to pay such an amount.

“We need to differentiate between paying high bonuses for serious matches and that of competitive games.

“This is part of the reasons why we have a bad name and I believe we must review things.”

The hullaballoo on the Black Stars winning bonuses reared its ugly head once again during the team’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying double-header with Comoros in November when media reports speculated an imminent reduction by 50 per cent.

The team currently receives $10, 000 per head as match winning bonus.
