Fianoo justifies 25 million prize money.

Mr. Kodjo Fianoo, Administrative Manger of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has said that, the 25 million-prize money on the second edition of the GHALCA Top Four competition is not the only benefit participating clubs would get from the competition.

Mr. Fianoo was reacting to criticisms from certain quarters of the sporting fraternity, which considers the prize money as too meagre considering the gate proceeds the association might make from the competition.

According to Mr. Fianoo, "this years amount is an improvement upon that of last year" adding that apart from the money for the winner, each club would be entitled to 10 million cedis for preparations towards the competition.

The Administrative Manger said the 10 million cedis is also an improvement upon last year amount which was five million cedis adding that participating clubs would also be given money for transport when honouring matches outside their regions

He said the association is working on securing sponsorship for the competition and "if this is done then the participating clubs stands a chance of getting more than what is being proposed now"

"Even though the money is not enough, I think it is better than the premier league which gives clubs nothing even if they win the league".

He said the competition is aimed at generating funds to help the clubs themselves and cited an example when the association gave each club 20 million cedis at the beginning of the present season.

Mr. Fianno, said this season would be the second edition of the competition and there is the possibility that it would improve in terms of finances and its patronage in the coming years.

He urged clubs not to bother too much about the prize money but to consider the general well being of the association and its members since the money generated during the competition would be used to help the clubs.

The GHALCA Top Four competition was first played at the beginning of this season between, Hearts, Bofoakwa, Liberty and Obuasi Goldfields and Hearts eventually won it.
