FA to check double registration of players

Kumasi, Sept. 14, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Football Association (RFA) has stepped up efforts to strengthen its database for efficient monitoring of players to enhance the success of the various lower division football leagues.

Mr Osei Tutu Agyemang, Chairman of the Association said that the FA was therefore in the process of computerising the relevant information about all the registered players in the lower divisions. The Chairman was addressing the RFA Congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The process would particularly check double registration and the falsification of ages of players which has over the years hampered the success of the lower division leagues. The event was used to take stock of the FA's activities in the past year and to chart a new path to enhance its activities. Topics discussed included restructuring of the Division Three, Two, Colts and women football.

The RFA Chairman said that it was high time stakeholders collaborated with the FA to upgrade facilities in the lower divisions since they were the breeding grounds for future players.

Mr Agyemang said training and football pitches which are in deplorable state in most communities need serious rehabilitation to ensure free flow of matches when the various leagues start.

The FA Chairman appealed to the District Assemblies to take keen interest in the lower division leagues by supporting them to strengthen their internal structures for the progress of the country's football. Mr Agyemang announced that the Division Two League would commence on November 19 and that it has been structured into five zones each comprising eight teams while with Division Three, the clubs have four months to round off the league. 14 Sept. 10
