FA chief blames dusmor for lack of sponsorship for Ghana league

Ghana Football Association Executive Committee Member, Delali Senaye has blamed the country’s recent power crisis for corporate entities lack of interest in sponsoring the Ghanaian topflight league.

The 18 week old Ghana Premier League is still without a headline sponsor after First Capital Bank withdrew their partnership with the GFA following reports of the banks’ complains of low mileage and lack of promotion for their brand.

The nation’s football governing body has been struggling to attract a sponsor for the league, with some clubs, notably Techiman City and New Edubiase threatening to pull of the competition due to their due inability to meet the high cost of operation.

Delali Senaye, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the Ghana FA’s Sponsorship and Marketing Committee says the outfit has tried beyond their means to secure a sponsor but the efforts has proved futile due to the energy crisis that has affected businesses.

“The energy crisis that Ghana had, this are the after effects, most companies don’t have the budget to sponsor football”, Senaye told Atinka FM
“I work on the sponsorship and marketing commitee and we push hard to get sponsors but the energy crisis, this is the after effect”.

Ghana’s energy crisis has deteriorated in recent times, hitting businesses hard, with authorities blaming the situation on low water levels in the Akosombo Dam and lack of gas to power the country’s thermal plants.

The GFA leadership, including president Kwesi Nyantakyi and spokesperson Ibrahim Saani Daara have recently blamed several entities, including Twi speaking stations for the lack of sponsorship for the league.
