Kumasi Asante Kotoko spanked Giants of the West Sekondi Hasaacas 3-0 to secure their passage into the quarter finals of this year’s Knock-Out competition.

Goals from Stephen Oduro (pic) in the 51st minute, and Aziz Ansah who converted two penalties in the 74th and 83th minutes were all that Kotoko needed to see them though.

Hasaacas, who caused a stir in their second round star Premier league match against Kotoko a couple of weeks ago, holding them to a 3-3 draw, looked like repeating their performance when they put Kotoko on the defensive until the 17th minute, when the homesters won a cornerkick which was wasted.

Kotoko kept on pressing and in the 21st minute Fuseini Adams hit the side net with a terrific shot at close range and in the 22nd minute goalkeeper Theophilus Mensah of Hasaacas tipped the ball over the bar from Aziz Ansah's pile driver.

Hasaacas counter attacked and earned a freekick in the 21st minute but the resultant kick by Frank Turkson went wayward.

Kotoko, determined to carry the day, doubled in attack but Michael Osei, in the 28th minute failed to fetch the opener after dashing to the right to send a long lob over the head of goalkeeper Mensah. The ball rolled across the goalmouth for the Hasmal defencemen to clear.

Kotoko pulled out goalkeeper Louis Quainoo for Osei Boateng and Joe Hendricks for Godfred Yeboah on resumption and this brought new life into their attack. Stephen Oduro scored in 51st minute, lobbing the ball over the head of goalkeeper Mensah for the opener. Two penalty kicks awarded Kotoko were neatly converted by Aziz Ansah to make victory certain for the reds.

Hearts ease into quarter final of FA cup

Accra Hearts of Oak made it an easy move into the quarter finals of the FA Cup when they chalked a comfortable 3-0 win over Okwawu United in the one-eighth stage of the FA cup at the Accra Sports Stadium

The scoreline is a bit deceptive considering the performance of Okwawu who gave a good account of themselves but failed to put the ball into the net.

Hearts, against the run of play took the lead, in the 18th minute when referee R.K Attifu from Tarkwa awarded a spot kick when Bernard Don Bortey went down in the box. Bortey who was writhing in pain on the pitch surprisingly recovered to convert the penalty for the first goal.

Hearts turned on the style after the goal and on several occasions came close to increasing the score line but over elaboration and poor shooting by Charles Taylor and Emmanuel Donkor rubbed them off easy scoring chances in the 19th, 23rd and 33rd minutes.

After the break, Hearts continued their fast counter attacks from the wings which the defenders of Okwawu found difficult in dealing with. It came as little surprise when in one of such breaks in the 57th, Taylor scored the second goal when he tapped in a Bortey cross from the right.

Hearts substitute Osei Kuffour in the 90th set up the third goal when he dribbled past Samuel Quansah in post for Okwawu before passing the ball to Taylor to tap into the empty net.

Liberty halts B.A. United

Accra Liberty Professionals halted the FA Cup ambitions of first division Brong Ahafo United when they whipped them 3-1 in their match at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Wednesday.

After a barren first half, Liberty swung into action, very determined to win the match and scored the first goal in the 47th minute through Paa Joe. The Liberty striker scored his second in the 58th minute and that seemed to have revived United as they went forward in their numbers, looking for theirs.
Kwesi Boateng reduced the tally for the homers in the 62nd minute and as they looked for the equaliser, their back was broken in the 85th when Liberty's Lawrence Awuni Quaye curled in a free-kick to cushion their lead to 3-1 and send them into the quarter finals.

Goldfields thrash Mighty Rocks

The one-eighth FA Cup match between Obuasi Goldfields and Bolgatanga Mighty Rocks ended 13 minutes inside the second half when the visitors refused to continue play at a time that the homesters were leading 7-0.

Mighty Rocks caused the first hold-up two minutes to the end of the first half when they protested against what they termed "poor officiating" by referee Nana Boamah-Darko of Berekum and assistant referee I. E. Batsa of Sunyani for ignoring a number of off-side infringements.

Goldfields were then up by six goals through goals scored by Isaac Boakye (3), Nana Arhin Duah (1), Aminu Musah (1) and Ofosu Amoah (1).

After several minutes of hold-up, the visitors gave in for the start of the second half and two minutes inside the half, Aminu Musah scored the 7th goal after connecting Isaac Boakye's cross.

In the 58th minute, Mighty Rocks Benjamin Owusu booted Goldfields Dauda Seidu and the referee red-carded him and this renewed the visitor’s anger, which led to their refusal to continue play.

Olympics ride over Dawu to Knockout quarterfinals

Wonder Club Accra Great Olympics on Thursday qualified for the quarterfinals of the FA Knockout competition with a 6-5 victory of Dawu Youngsters in their one-eighth match played at the Accra Sports stadium.
Olympics kicked off and made early incursions into their opponents half but timely interventions from Dawu’s goalie Amoaful, saved them from conceding any goals.
Olympics' best chance to take the lead came in the 37th minute when David Sarkodie set up James Zogho but the latter fumbled at the last minute to leave Dawu off the hook.
Two minutes into the second half, Referee Kwame Ghartey, yellow carded Dawu’s David Robinson for bringing down Dennis Odoom when he was in a good position to score. Olympics however took the lead in the 71st minute with a header from Odoom, which sailed into the open net after the ball had been chipped over the head of onrushing goalie Amoaful, who incidentally had a spectacular game for Dawu.
The celebration of the Dade Boys was however cut short when Dawu's Baba Sulley tapped in the equaliser, less than two minutes after the opener when he profited from a goalmouth melee as Olympics defenders failed to deal with a cross from the right.
Both teams resorted to physical tackles, which brought out the yellow card of Referee Ghartey on several occasions.
During the penalty shoot out, Olympics converted all their five kicks whiles Dawu wasted their first kick.
