English-based strikers called up for Ghana friendly

ACCRA, May 7 (Reuters) - English-based strikers Junior Agogo and Derek Asamoah have both been invited to play for World Cup-bound Ghana in a warm-up match against French Ligue 1 club Nice on Tuesday.

It is a first call-up for the pair by coach Ratomir Dujkovic, seeking striking options in the wake of a potential injury crisis for Ghana just over one month before the start of the tournament in Germany.

Both players are from the bottom rung of professional football in England. Accra-born Agogo, 26, plays for Bristol Rovers while the 25-year-old Asamoah is on loan at Chester City from Lincoln.

Ghana are unsure over the availability of German-based forwards Matthew Amoah and Isaac Boakye, both battling with injury.

The hastily-arranged match in France is Ghana's last before Dujkovic names his 23-man squad on May 15.
