Emmanuel Clottey wants more trophies

Berekum Chelsea star striker Emmanuel Clottey may be living in football’s utopia world these days but the striker is not a content man yet.

The former Premier League goalking remains a regular feature with the national team despite playing on the local front and just last Wednesday celebrated a first league title with his much unfancied club.

The league title was sealed with his late goal, converted from the penalty spot to give Chelsea a 1-0 win over RTU and an unassailable lead at the league summit with three games to spare.

It was not the first time Chelsea have relied on Emmanuel Clottey for a goal and a win, and as he says, it certainly won’t be his last. He has consistently scored for them all season and last Wednesday’s strike was the 12th in total for the 2010/11 season.

It moved him level with Asante Kotoko marksman Nathaniel Asamoah who failed to hit the target on Wednesday as his side drew goalless with Ashantigold, a match made meaningless before kickoff due to Clottey’s goal and its resultant victory for Chelsea.

Emmanuel Clottey however has told All Sports, he is not satisfied yet because he wants to add both the FA Cup trophy and the league’s goalking title to his haul come end of season.

That is why he is in no party mood even though a first league winner’s medal has been secured, revealing he and his teammates wasted no time in getting back to training on Thursday morning, hardly 24 hours after being crowned champions.

“Obviously I’m happy but everything is normal and we are going to training because we still have the FA Cup and 3 league matches to come. I promise my fans that I will do something big for them so they should keep on praying for me,” Clottey told All Sports on Thursday.

Clottey has also once again been named as the only outfield player based in the local league for the Black Stars’ double header against Congo and Korea in June. He is equally excited but insists he is working hard to gain a playing time, not merely add to the numbers.

“I’m always happy to play for the national team because as a young player there can be nothing greater. But I also want to feature more when I am called up so I will work hard in training and see what God can do,” the striker said.
