Ekrami unfazed by Asamoah Gyan

Egypt goalkeeper Sherif Ekrami played down fears of threat Ghana star striker Asamoah Gyan might pose during both nations’ World Cup qualifying playoff next month.

The Al Ahly shot-stopper has been named as the person to start in the match against the Black Stars on 13 October.

Ekrami’s performances for the Pharaohs in the qualifiers has been excellent and has been outstanding for his club in African Champions League.

However, the threat of facing one of the deadliest strikers in Africa, Asamoah Gyan, could provide him with his biggest test since taking over goalkeeping duties from Essam El Hadary.

But Ekrami insists he will be able to thwart all the threat from the Ghana hitman and other Black Stars players.

“There is absolutely no reason to worry from Ghana and their striker Gyan,” Ekrami told FilGoal.com.

“I think we are capable of getting past Ghana and making it to the World Cup finals.”

Egypt, the only team to register a 100% qualifying winning record, visit Ghana on October 13 in Kumasi before hosting the Black Stars the following week. Ghana will be eyeing a third consecutive World Cup appearance, while Egypt are looking for their first qualification in 23 years.
