Dwarfs thrash Iron Fighters

Cape Coast, Oct.13, GNA-Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, worsened the plight of relegation threatened Iron Fighters, when they crushed them 2-0 in their (Zone 2B) first division league match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Sunday.

Dwarfs, who needed the three points at stake to consolidate their position on the league table, made victory certain as early as from the 19th minute when they scored two rapid goals before half time.

The match which kicked off under the instruction of FIFA referee Justus Agbeko started fiercely but Dwarfs who were better opened the scoring with a penalty.

Dwarfs continued to pile pressure on Fighters and it came as no surprise when right half back, Stanley Afedzi, in a solo effort, mounted the tally to 2-0 in the 19th minute.

In the 61st minute, centre forward Lawrence Dadzie of Fighters was red carded for a second bookable offence, but in spite of their numerical disadvantage Fighters outclassed Dwarfs in all departments of the game except scoring.

They were on top throughout the second half, but Dwarfs' iron- clad defence foiled their efforts at goal.

Citrus Stars beat Astronomers

Nyinasin (C/R) Oct.13, GNA-The Cape Coast district under "17" colts league match between Nyinasin Citrus Stars and Adisadel Astronomers played at Nyinasin on Saturday ended abruptly in the 21st minute. At the time of the incident, Citrus Stars were leading 1-0.

It all started when Citrus Stars scored their second goal through centre forward, Paul Sassah and Class Two referee Kennedy Bentil who handled the match whistle for a goal,

Ahmed Tijani, coach for Astronomers protested vehemently alleging that the goal was scored from an off side position. As the Referee stood his grounds Tijani who was not satisfied with his decision slapped him and destroyed his wrist watch.
