Dwarfs beat Vipers in charity match

EBUSUA Dwarfs last Sunday beat Venomous Vipers 2-1 in an AIDS awareness campaign football match played at the Cape Coast Siwdu Park.

Dwarfs’ Matthew Atiogbe scored two times in the sixth and the 19th minutes respectively to place Dwarfs in a comfortable lead.

Vipers fought hard to pull one back in the 84th minute through striker C. K. Dadson. The match was organised by PRO-BIG, a Ghanaian-based NGO in conjunction with Ghana Education Promotion, a US-based NGO to help create awareness about the danger of the HIV/AIDS menace and how people can prevent contracting the disease.

The Omanhen of Anumabo Traditional Council, Nana Okeakyir Amonoo, performed the official kick-off for the commencement of the game.

The President of Ghana Education Promotion, Mr Arthur Whitheman in an interview said the disease is fast spreading and not a single day passes without somebody being infected with HIV/AIDS, adding that the campaign was to help curb its rapid spread.

Supporters of Ebusua Dwarfs marred the beauty of the game when they tried to assault Class One referee, E. M. Alhassan, from Takoradi for allowing Dadson’s goal. The timely intervention by the police saved the referee from the angry mob.
