Dutchman Promises To Build Mighty Black Stars

Dutchman Willem Leisius says he would combine Dutch flair and European tactical discipline with renowned Ghanaian skills to help Ghana regain her place as Africa’s best national team.

Leisius, in his first public interview on a Ghanaian network told Radio Gold he has followed Ghana football long enough to be hopeful about doing great things with the Black Stars.

The Dutchman, one of seven expatriates who want to handle the national team played for PSV Eindhoven in Holland before acting as assistant to former England manager Bobby Robson. He handled a number of Dutch sides before moving to the Gulf where he had in his words, “a great time”.

He would know his fate in that regard when the FA, which is deciding on a shortlist of three for further consideration this week finalise that list. Leisius has been mentioned as one of the favourites for the job. He says he would do all he can to help turn Ghana around if the FA settles on him.

“The last time I saw the FIFA ranking, Ghana was ninth, which is not good for a country with Ghana’s history. Ghana should be somewhere in the first three”.

“I would do my best by combining European discipline with the superb skills that Africans are noted for”.
