Dong Bortey denies falsifying his age

Ex- Ghana international, Bernard Dong Bortey has vehemently denied media reports which seem to suggest that he falsified his age in order to sign for Swedish Division 2 club Ange IF.

The former Hearts of Oak player has been in the news for all the wrong reason in the last couple of days after a Facebook page purported to be the official account of his new club, confirmed that they had signed Dong Bortey who is 24 years old.

The part that said Bortey is 24 years sent a lot of Ghanaian football fans on social media into frenzy, with many accusing the winger of age cheating.

Bortey has been accused of age cheating because he played in the Ghana Premier League in the mid 1990’s and was part of Ghana’s 1999 U-17 team that played at the Youth World Cup in New Zeeland.

Speaking on Accra based Starr FM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, Dong Bortey said he is 32 years and not 24, adding that the hose spreading the falsehood about his age are his detractors.

“I do not know where this age issue is coming from. It is very bad because my club has not even posted my age on the Internet so who did that? Everybody in Ghana knows my age unless you are a child who is not yet born. My actual age is 32, not 24, so why will I lie about it and for those doing that, no matter what Dong Bortey will rise again, ”Dong Bortey told Accra based Starr FM.
