Diouf Equals Abedi's Record

Senegalese striker El Hadji Diouf has been named African Footballer of the Year for the second successive year.

Diouf was the clear winner of this award, which is voted for by Fifty five African journalists, 33 of them named the Liverpool player as their first choice.

He is the first player since Ghana's Abedi Pele to lift the trophy two years in a row.

Diouf inspired Senegal to the quarter-finals of the World Cup and his countryman Pape Bouba Diop was a distant second place.

In third place was Mallorca's Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.
