Desailly backs Black Stars to qualify for 2014 WC

Ghana-born former France captain Marcel Desailly has lauded Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah and the Ghana Football Association for the good work done so far in the ongoing Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars who are seeking a third successive appearance at the World Cup are currently in South Africa preparing for their penultimate Group D game against Lesotho in Maseru this Sunday. Ghana are placed second with 9 points just a point behind leaders Zambia in Group D.

Desailly, who was a frontrunner for the Ghana job after the exit of Serbian trainer Goran Stevanovic, is backing the Black Stars to make it to Brazil.

"I'm very pleased to see that they have used a local coach, Kwasi Nyantakyi has done very well since I told him I was not ready for the position and they appointed Kwasi Appiah who is doing very well," the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner told Joy Sports.

"Zambia is still there hanging, but I think we can do well and qualify and potentially I think we can surprise the world again at the World Cup," he added.
