Derek Asamoah To Train With QPR

Ghana striker Derek Asamoah will be training with English club QPR with the aim of keeping fit ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 30-year-old will join the London-based club after a three-week rest following the end of the South Korean league where he helped Pohang Steelers finish second.

Asamoah however insists the move is to help him maintain his fitness for the Nations Cup amidst rumours of a possible move to Loftus Road.

“The idea is to maintain my fitness ahead of the Africa Cup now that the South Korean league is over,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“I sought permission from one of the technical staff at QPR who used to be my manager to train with the team not looking for a contract.

“I believe it is a good move especially with the Africa Cup on the horizon, hopefully if I get selected for the tournament I won’t have any problems with my fitness.”
