Deputy Captain focuses on Australia game

Accra, June 15, GNA - John Mensah Deputy Captain of the Black Stars, has said the focus of the team is now on their next match against Australia, on Saturday, June 19.
He described the match as a difficult one for the Stars, because they will be coming up against a wounded Australian side, that will be seeking to redeem their image after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany in their opening game.
Speaking at Press Conference at the team's hotel, Mensah indicated that, they are prepared to put behind the lone goal victory over Serbia to seek their second win in the competition.
"It's nice to win your first match in a competition like this, but this is just the beginning and we have more work to do in the subsequent games.
"We are not going to allow the first win to eat into our heads, because we are far from qualifying for the next stage". Mensah noted. According to the skipper, who led the team in the game against Serbia, following the decision of the coach to bench captain Stephen Appiah, they have acquired a lot of experience at the World Cup level and will be guided by that.
He said the experience of the team at the last world cup, has given the psychological boost, confidence for the tournament in South Africa and they will ride on that to keep their championship aspirations on course. "We are not under pressure to perform, rather we are confident and we believe can go far in the competition". He stated.
Mensah who plays for Sunderland in England, was one of the few players whose place in the team was met with some criticisms due to his long battle with injury in the course of the season.
This compelled the technical handlers of the team to give the player some off days during the pre tournament preparations.
