Andrea Dede Ayew took time off Ghana’s preparations for the final of the African Youth Championships to visit an orphanage in the Rwanda capital Kigali.

The Ghana U-20 captain donated food items worth US$ 2,000 (roughly Frw 1,138,000) and interacted with kids at the Gisimba Orphanage ahead of Sunday’s final.

“Since I have been here I have heard so many sad stories so I decided to give something out of what I have earned,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “Being with those kids, seeing how happy they are now makes me appreciate what I have got even more.”

Dede was the second Ghana player to donate part of his winning bonus to an orphanage after Samuel Inkoom went on the same mission last week. The two players will join their colleagues for the final of the Africa Youth Championships against Cameroon eager to leave Kigali with more happy memories and the Africa Youth Championships in charge.

Dede was phenomenal for Ghana in the opening game against Cameroon which ended 1-1 and has promised Ghana will simply do what is necessary to win the final. “We are not looking to play well, just to win,” he said.

“This is the final so it’s not about good football. We will play like Ghana but that is not the most important thing.

"The most important thing is to put the ball in the net. This is not a League game, it’s not a group stage match, and it’s the final of a major competition. It’s not the team that plays well that will win but the team that scores. The game might be determined by the little details. It might be settled on someone’s mistake or a moment of loss of concentration by one of the teams.”
