DOL to continue this week

Accra, Sept 9, GNA - The Division One League Board has directed that the national division one league should continue at all league centers this weekend after the first round of the league ended last week.

Mr. Douglass Djarbeng, chairman of the board told the GNA Sports that there will not be any break in the league and that the second round will continue on Sunday September 13.

He said the second round of the league will be a reversed system where clubs start from the top and not from the bottom. This is not the same as being done in the premier league. He explained that the league is expected to end by the end of October to make way for the sub-middle league in November.

Mr Djarbeng however called on participating clubs who are yet to settle their officiating fees to do so before the beginning of the second round.

The DOL chairman said the first round of the league has been a trouble free one since problems like rowdism, hooliganism and other forms of violence have been minimal.

"Clubs in the league have come to the realization that they can win or lose matches at their home grounds and this has accounted for the level of peace witnessed in the league so far". Mr Djarbeng stated. Mr. Djarbeng said the development is a good sign for nation and expressed the hope that the same spirit will continue in the second round.

Mr Djarbeng outlined problems such as absence of officiating referees, footballs for match venues and the absence of inner perimeters at certain venues as needing solution by the Board. He said there has not been much problem with officiating in the league and expressed the hope that this will continue in the second round.
